When you need a receipt in the UK
The UK has no general rule on what a receipt must show. If your customer is VAT-registered and asks, you may need to give a VAT invoice instead.
Receipt or invoice?
An invoice asks for payment. A receipt confirms that payment has been made. If you already sent an invoice, the receipt can refer to its number.
